Topeka, KS - Senator Ty Masterson, Chair of the Kansas Truth Caucus, issued the following statement in response to the press conference announcing a so-called compromise to expand Medicaid:
"If the Senate 'Majority' Leader was Patrick Mahomes, he just threw a 'pick six' to the opposing team and then celebrated with them in the end zone. Laura Kelly and her allies wish to grow government and expand the welfare state at all costs. Healthcare access is important to all of us, but this is not the answer.
"Like all previous attempts to grow ObamaCare in Kansas, this proposal will increase dependency on government, while doing nothing to help those who Medicaid was intended to help like the elderly and the disabled. It does NOT include any work requirements and does nothing to protect life or to protect taxpayer dollars from going to fund abortion. We will be working diligently to stop this and any other bill that fails to protect vulnerable Kansans currently sitting on waiting lists for Medicaid services and does not include a minimum work requirement to receive the taxpayer-funded benefit."
