The Kansas Truth Caucus, an organization of over 50 state legislators, issued the following statement from its chairman, Senator Ty Masterson, in response to the Executive Order No. 20-18:
"Governor Kelly’s latest executive order takes an unprecedented leap in its targeting of the religious community and their right to worship. Churches across the state have voluntarily complied with the governor’s recommendations to keep their members safe, but this targeted assault to prohibit Kansans from exercising their constitutionally protected religious freedom is a bridge too far.
Our religious institutions should be prudent and follow the proper health recommendations regarding social distancing and take every precaution to ensure the health and well-being of their members, but the Governor’s order goes too far in the targeting of our churches and religious community, especially during Holy Week while many other institutions continue to be exempted for this order.
We call on the LCC to respect Kansans' right to worship freely and reject the Governor’s Executive Order No. 20-18."
